ladyofthethread | 2010 Cosplay Review

Hmm… It’s been a while. I’d been meaning to update here but I’ve been lazy. ^_^;; We had a couple of relatives from Canada visit over Thanksgiving week but they spent most of their time out sightseeing so I actually saw very little of them. One of them (a son of one of my mother’s cousins, I think) is a culinary student and works part time making chocolates at a confectionary store so he offered to cook Thanksgiving dinner for us. That kind of led to craziness with so much food that he needed two ovens and there were huge amounts of leftovers!

Still in a lazy mood and so not ready for the holidays. ._.; I think the cold kind of kills my desire to do stuff. I’ve only written a few cards so far and haven’t done anything about making gifts. The only thing I’ve made some progress on so far is a fanfic exchange I signed up for; I have about 3 pages so far but it’s likely going to end up being 2-3 times longer than that when done.

I’ve been seeing these lists pop up on my friends page lately so I guess I might as well do mine, too.

Youko from The Twelve Kingdoms (anime guide cover outfit)
Made for Anime Boston. I kind of want to embellish this a bit more since it’s pretty plain and the illustration was so vague anyway. I’d also like to add her sword if I ever find a prop one close enough to modify.

Count D from Petshop of Horrors (artbook kimono)
Also made for Anime Boston. Lots of fabric painting and applique. Probably my favorite out of my 2010 costumes.

Sakura Matsuri dress
Not really a costume but I made a cute Japanese print dress and matching kanzashi to wear for the ~~cherry blossom~~ festival instead of cosplaying since the flowers were gone.

Sarah from Kaleido Star (cowgirl costume)
Made for AnimeNext in about a week as a surprise costume. I don’t usually make costumes this tiny but I found the boots cheap and was kind of tired of always being buried under layers of fabric at summer cons. >_>;

Kyoya from Ouran High School Host Club (final episode costume)
Wore it half-finished at AnimeNext and had it completed for Otakon. Lots of fancy fabrics and I really want to get more pics of it sometime since most of my Otakon photo plans fell through due to the hotel debacle.

Daphne from Scooby Doo (as Miss Scarlet from Clue)
Actually a leftover from Halloween 2009 that didn’t get finished in time. Pulled it out of the closet and finished it up for Otakon so I could get library pics but that also never happened because of the hotel problem.

Made for NYCC/NYAF to go with

neoangelwink as Guybrush. This was silly fun. XD

Ryuuren from Saiunkoku Monogatari
I managed to get enough done by NYAF to have an indoors version and finished it for a Halloween photoshoot. There are still things I need to go back and fix though since it was rushed and my headdress got wrecked after the photoshoot. Looking forward to the group at Katsucon next year. ^_^ If anyone else wants to join in, let me know!

So, I made 7 costumes this year, 8 if you want to count the Sakura Matsuri dress. O_O; That’s a record for me since I usually seem to average 4 a year! I suppose it’s not really that much extra though since Sarah and Elaine were pretty quick and Daphne was almost done.
