Hmm… It’s been a while. I’d been meaning to update here but I’ve been lazy. ^_^;; We had a couple of relatives from Canada visit over Thanksgiving week but they spent most of their time out sightseeing so I actually saw very little of them. One of them (a son of one of my mother’s cousins, I think) is a culinary student and works part time making chocolates at a confectionary store so he offered to cook Thanksgiving dinner for us. That kind of led to craziness with so much food that he needed two ovens and there were huge amounts of leftovers!

Still in a lazy mood and so not ready for the holidays. ._.; I think the cold kind of kills my desire to do stuff. I’ve only written a few cards so far and haven’t done anything about making gifts. The only thing I’ve made some progress on so far is a fanfic exchange I signed up for; I have about 3 pages so far but it’s likely going to end up being 2-3 times longer than that when done.

I’ve been seeing these lists pop up on my friends page lately so I guess I might as well do mine, too.

Youko from The Twelve Kingdoms (anime guide cover outfit)
Made for Anime Boston. I kind of want to embellish this a bit more since it’s pretty plain and the illustration was so vague anyway. I’d also like to add her sword if I ever find a prop one close enough to modify.
Photobucket

Count D from Petshop of Horrors (artbook kimono)
Also made for Anime Boston. Lots of fabric painting and applique. Probably my favorite out of my 2010 costumes.
Photobucket

Sakura Matsuri dress
Not really a costume but I made a cute Japanese print dress and matching kanzashi to wear for the cherry blossom festival instead of cosplaying since the flowers were gone.
Photobucket

Sarah from Kaleido Star (cowgirl costume)
Made for AnimeNext in about a week as a surprise costume. I don’t usually make costumes this tiny but I found the boots cheap and was kind of tired of always being buried under layers of fabric at summer cons. >_>;
Photobucket

Kyoya from Ouran High School Host Club (final episode costume)
Wore it half-finished at AnimeNext and had it completed for Otakon. Lots of fancy fabrics and I really want to get more pics of it sometime since most of my Otakon photo plans fell through due to the hotel debacle.

Daphne from Scooby Doo (as Miss Scarlet from Clue)
Actually a leftover from Halloween 2009 that didn’t get finished in time. Pulled it out of the closet and finished it up for Otakon so I could get library pics but that also never happened because of the hotel problem.
Photobucket

Elaine from Curse of Monkey Island
Made for NYCC/NYAF to go with [livejournal.com profile] neoangelwink as Guybrush. This was silly fun. XD
Photobucket

Ryuuren from Saiunkoku Monogatari
I managed to get enough done by NYAF to have an indoors version and finished it for a Halloween photoshoot. There are still things I need to go back and fix though since it was rushed and my headdress got wrecked after the photoshoot. Looking forward to the group at Katsucon next year. ^_^ If anyone else wants to join in, let me know!

So, I made 7 costumes this year, 8 if you want to count the Sakura Matsuri dress. O_O; That’s a record for me since I usually seem to average 4 a year! I suppose it’s not really that much extra though since Sarah and Elaine were pretty quick and Daphne was almost done.

And a reminder… If you want a holiday card, comment on this post: http://ladyofthethread.livejournal.com/185400.html
I’ll try to get them in the mail in about a week.

Your D kimono is probably my favorite too, but really, all the costumes you did this year were stunning! ^^

I love the first two pics. The kimonos are nice. You look beautiful in them. It's amazing that you can make it all by yourself. Do you hand sew or use a sewing machine? My mom was a seamstress before she retired, but she can't make something like this beautiful. Do you use a pattern or did you design it all yourself? Where did you learn to sew? You are so talented!

Thank you. :-) I don't believe we've spoken before?

I do most of my work by sewing machine and my costumes tend to be heavily altered from purchased sewing patterns rather than completely drafted from scratch. My mother was also a seamstress so I learned a bit from her as well as just practice and taking a few sewing classes.

I'm from stuy too and I just came across your cool pics and thought I add you. I'm cantonese also. :) Which college did you go to? I remember one girl went to parsons school of design - totally spin off the math/science track. She wanted to get into fashion. You should take up some classes at parson to learn new techniques to make more outfits. Or try out for Project Runaway. :)

Such a productive year! :D All your costumes were lovely. I loved them all, especially the Count D kimono ^^ Also, this is the first time I've ever seen the Kyouya costume completed. It turned out really well ^^

Thanks! :-) Yeah, I don't think I posted Kyoya or Daphne here before. I threw the pics up on my ACP page but the Otakon report I had been writing for here got scrapped since my grandmother passed away so soon after I got back and they never made it up here.

Wow. I really am stunned! Your Ryuuren is certainly the best I've seen.

Thanks! :-) I've found a bunch of Ryuuren cosplays on Cure (Japanese cosplay site) but he doesn't seem very popular in the West and I think I've only seen 2 or 3 Western cosplays of him. Maybe, since his anime outfit is so complicated? I went a bit nuts myself trying to gather all the different fabrics and trying to make sure I got all of the lines of trim.

I love your costumes- you are really talented. I have to say the Kyoya is spot on!

Thanks! :-) I took screencaps like crazy when I made Kyoya and managed to get details like the coat lining being lavender and the vest lining being white. Made my own stockings too since they were kind of weird.

These are all awesome!

I feel like an underachiever as I only made one costume this year...-_-'

Thanks! :-) Your butterfly gown was very impressive though and probably took more time than any of these since you also had to make the underpinnings! I think I really only ended up with so many this year because I only did 3 more complicated costumes with lots of embellishment.
