Finished my bows so I’ll put up a progress pic. The bows are graduated sizes and I took a picture of them on top of the new dress fabric I got. The petticoat is just cotton so I’ll make a second one with netting to go under it later. It has such a huge hem that the ruffles at the bottom took about 3 yards of fabric.

Since there’s only 3 weeks left to AnimeNext, I’m trying to figure out what to bring. I know I’ll have Cecelia so I can do YGO with [livejournal.com profile] novaraven sometime Saturday. And I’ll have the newest D so we can do PSOH sometime over the weekend, too. By the way, is anyone else still doing Petshop for Next? Was wondering mostly so we can plan a time.

And I’m not sure what else I’ll have. Considering Sarah so I can do Kaleido Star with [livejournal.com profile] neoangelwink but I’m a little hesitant now with the fur hood on that costume. ^_^;; Not sure if I’ll end up remaking Youka’s obi in time and it can’t be worn again until I do that. Maybe, I could bring out one of my older Ds? The peacock dress hasn’t been out for nearly a year. Or formal Terra since I haven’t worn that for a year either?

And finally getting around to writing about this…

Saw the “Sunday in the Park with George” revival last week. For those not familiar with it, it was composed by Stephen Sondheim (who also composed Sweeney Todd) and it’s about pointillist painter Georges Seurat and his creation of the famous painting, “A Sunday Afternoon on the Island of La Grande Jatte.” I’d already seen the DVD of the original Broadway production and thought it would be nice to see on stage.

I found the scenic/lighting design to be the most interesting thing. The walls around the stage were all white and the backdrop of the park in the painting was actually created by projecting the images onto the walls, starting with black and white when the artist is just beginning to sketch and progressing to color later. The projections would change, too, as George made changes to the painting.

Slightly disappointing was the fact that they just used the lights to create a silhouette of Dot during the title song. The effect in the original Broadway version was much cooler. There, the bustled Victorian dress that Dot was wearing opened up by itself. Then, she stepped out and danced around in corset, pantaloons, and bustle during the song while the empty dress closed back up and stood on its own!

Oh, I meant to tell you since you are such a Gankutsuou fan, the VA for the Count is super nice in person! :-) He was at AZ this past weekend. I still hear his voice in my mind. <3

Depending on if I finish my costume work by next week, I'm going to do Ibis for the PSoH group.

Ooh, that would be great. :-) Don't stress over it if you don't have time though.

I like your new fabric :) Nice job on the bows - I have a new appreciation for them after Celes' 3 graduated bows on her bodice. I like how you have consistently the same creases in all three of them.

Thanks. ^_^ I interfaced my bows with a couple of layers of netting so they would hold their shape and the creases are actually just folded in. I always make my bows in 2 pieces with the center "knot" separate. I usually just tack the "knot" to my costume and tuck the bigger loop for the side pieces inside so I can adjust it if necessary.

That sounds like how I did my bows, though instead of the netting I used sewable interfacing. Huzzah for bows....

This is looking gorgeous so far! I love the new color of silk, it's the perfect shade (I love the pink bows against it too).

Thanks. :-) The new silk is somewhat brighter and more turquoise in person since I wanted to compensate for it getting washed out by camera flashes (like in that pic) and the sun.

We're going to try and get up early on saturday morning and do our yugi-oh photoshoot at 11. That way my sister can have time to enter the hall costume contest. It will also give us time later in the day to change into psoh stuff. I don't know what time we're getting to the con on friday. I don't think we'll be able to cosplay the first day at all.

Sunday I've heard theres a fruits basket photoshoot going on. I might bring Ritsu out. I've only worn that outfit once. Unfortunately I also do not know what time we have to leave on sunday, it will most likely be very early so again we may not get to cosplay. All this traveling time really makes adds up.

Saturday morning for YGO should be fine. ^_^ I’ll ask my brother if he’ll take some group pictures and I’d like to do a little shoot with just Pegasus and Cecelia, too.

Ah, your sister is planning to enter Isis in the hall contest? If you helped a lot with her costume, it might be good for the two of you to consider a group entry since the hall contest is for craftsmanship only and it would be better if all the work was done within the group. The Saturday contest is busier so it’d be good to get there as soon as judging starts that day. Printing out the contest form and filling it in beforehand helps speed things up and it’s good to bring a reference picture since one of the things they judge is accuracy.

I usually like to do the hall contest at Next but after the last couple of costumes I competed with, I think Cecelia is too plain to be worth entering alone. ^_^; Even though I’m making my own petticoats and doing my usual French seams and lining and such inside. And if I were in a group entry, we’d have to be judged at Craftsman level since they go by the person with the highest level in the group.

I’m not sure what I’m doing costume-wise on Sunday. I didn’t sign up for cosplay chess this year although I’ll probably go watch. Maybe, I’ll bring one of my Fruits Basket costumes if I can’t think of anything else good to wear that day.

Yeah, it’s a lot of traveling time. :-/ I remember it was about a 10 hour drive for my family when we went to Anime North last year. Do you have any idea when you and your friends might be leaving for the con yet? Early Friday morning?
