Finished sleeve

Just one more sleeve to finish up and I’ll be done with my Ayame coat! ^_^ I got the first one done last night and am working on the other now.

It came out well but I don’t think I want to do another costume with so much tailoring again soon. ^_^; I love to embellish, more than actual sewing, but the sleeve cuffs are probably the most detailed part of the whole outfit. So, I think the lack of embellishment work made me kind of bored and feel like the thing was taking much too long. :-/ Didn’t really get to try out anything new on this costume either since my idea to use piping for the trim didn’t work out. But, it should definitely be done for Anime Boston, which is good.

Speaking of Anime Boston, it’s less than a month away and I still haven’t decided on a final costume list. ^_^; The new Ayame and my blue brocade Count D are definites because I need them for the hall contest and cosplay chess. And I want to wear the peacock dress for the ball. But I’d like to bring one or two more costumes and I’m not sure what to pick.

Formal Terra would be my first choice but I want to take in the dress a little and fix up some things and I’m not sure how much I’ll get done before then. I’m a bit tempted to bring one of my Twelve Kingdoms costumes since I know someone else is working on Kyou-Ou for the con but the outfits are kind of heavy. I’d like to wear my old Ayame at least once this year since I still love the coat but if I brought it to AB, I’d have 4 crossplays which I think is a bit much.

I just love it when you show the close ups of your costumes liek this so we can see just how much details you put into them.

Thanks. ^_^ I love putting in little details like this but unfortunately, they tend to be too small to show in my actual costume photos.

Waah I love it!
Can you happen to tell me where you got that fabric? I like it a lot. XD

Do they happen to have it in any other colors and also, is it shiny?? x.x;

Thank you. ^_^ I got the fabric in the upholstry section at P&S fabrics a few months ago but they were liquidating since they lost their lease. It was on Broadway, a few blocks south of Canal Street, but they're probably gone by now and I'm not sure if they were able to find a new location. :-(

The leaves have a bit of sheen to them and I don't think I remember seeing this particular brocade in other colors. You could probably find similar things if you searched the fashion district but I'm not sure how likely you are to find the same pattern.

I have a stupid question...how did you put on those gold trim thingie? :p

[identity profile] ladyofthethread.livejournal.com 2007-03-30 04:29 pm (UTC)(link)
Ah, I just handsewed the gold trim on. Since the cording is made up of two sections wrapped around each other, I went through the middle and around one of the sections to tack it to the fabric.

That sleeve looks amazing! I love the gold detailing and how you've done the buttons ♥
