Ugh, I'm sick of being sick. About 3 weeks and I still have this cold. Most of the time, it’s just sniffles and a cough but it’s really annoying that it hasn’t gone away even though I’ve been staying inside to avoid the cold weather. I work from home so prior to Saturday, I literally hadn’t left the house for over 2 weeks. -_-X It has been going around my family too but it hasn’t lingered this badly for anyone else.

Anyway, since it was warm out on Saturday, I decided I just couldn’t wait anymore and went out to look for stuff for Costume Con projects. I got swatches but haven’t bought my Ekaterina fabric yet. I think I’m giving up on trying to find something cheaper and just getting the $19/yard wool gabardine from NY Elegant Fabrics. I usually avoid spending more than $10/yard since lots of my costumes are layered things that eat fabric but it seems ridiculously hard to find lightweight wool the right color for the jacket. -_-;

Wandered around the fashion district and went into several trim and bead places looking for little buckles and frogs for D’s vampire costume. Also got some red brocade downtown to fill in the sides. Didn’t make it to a costume store for fangs as I was hoping but I ordered some online yesterday and I should have everything I need to finish this outfit.

Here’s what I’ve been working on. I finished all the straps for the sides of the vampire costume. They’re black cotton velvet with a lighter fabric for the back. I think turning all the straps right side out took more time than anything else. I’ve read of a trick where you’re supposed to tie a knot in a string and sew it into the tube so you can pull it and turn the strap but it never works for me. >_> I always end up slowly plucking at these things with tweezers or something. (I thought about possibly getting black velvet ribbon to save time but it didn’t match the color or texture of the velvet I already had for the robe.)

I got the buckles at M&J Trim and I was lucky they had just enough of this style; they were $1.25 each. A lot of the other styles were around $2-$4 apiece, which I really didn’t want to pay considering how many I needed. (Checked Daytona Trimming and some other places too but no one else had as much selection.) The metal bits at the end of the other straps are actually chandelier earring pieces I got at a bead shop. The holes at the base made them perfect for sewing onto the straps. :-D And the red fabric is what I’m using for the inner layer of the costume. Everything for this costume came out to about $90-$95 so I’m happy about that considering how much Ekaterina is costing.

Going to try to make it to Anime Day at Kinokuniya on Sunday. I suppose I’ll wear Eugenie if it isn’t too cold. Otherwise, probably one of my older D costumes since they’re the only ones suitable for commuting in. Anyone else going? I’ve hardly seen anyone since NYAF so it’s nice that there’s some stuff going on around the city this month; I’m such a hermit when it’s not con season for me. ^_^;;;

And I want to go to the cosplay party at the Japan Society on the 28th. I think I’ll try to finish vampire D for that. Haven’t finished anything since Eugenie for NYAF so it’ll be nice to have a new costume again! ^_^
