So, I went out last night with my parents to a wedding reception at a huge Chinese restaurant in Queens. The groom was someone who used to work for my father. (I was kind of muddled before for some reason and thought it was supposed to be some distant relative.) And it was unquestionably the biggest wedding we’d ever been invited to. The tables, which seated about 10 each, were numbered and from what I could see, the numbers went up to the upper 50’s! O_O; The cake was the hugest I’d ever seen, too; It had a very long rectangular base with 3 round tiers above the center and 2 more round tiers on each side plus a miniature fountain in the center. o_o (Never got to sample it since it was getting late and my parents wanted to leave before it was served.) If I’d known it was going to be such a big party, I’d worn something more sparkly. I felt kind of plain in my pink suit. ^_^; And old and boring to boot since I don’t dance and don’t really drink. :-P
There were some amusing antics during the tossing of the bouquet and the bride’s garter. First, a guy caught the bouquet and was pretending to run away with it. And then, this little kid kept getting the garter so both of those had to be redone. XD
Speaking of weddings, I finished reading the latest novel in Claudia Bishop’s Hemlock Falls mystery series, “A Dinner to Die For.” The main characters are a pair of sisters, Sarah (aka Quill) and Meg Quilliam, who run an inn in an upstate New York town called Hemlock Falls and often find themselves investigating crimes involving their guests. Maybe, it’s the “hemlock” in the town’s name that attracts so many murders for them to solve! XD; The latest book is set a few days before temperamental chef Meg is to marry her longtime boyfriend but she has a serious case of cold feet. Quill is overwhelmed as usual, trying to keep the inn running smoothly and solve the crime while trying to convince her sister not to back out of the wedding. Poor Quill always seems to be in a perpetually stressed state in these books due to her innkeeping duties and dealing with the quirky townspeople! But they're fun to read and things usually turn out okay in the end.
Still need to finish putting in the lining in Ayame’s coat. And I decided to go ahead and apply for cosplay chess at AnimeNext with a couple of my costumes since it seems they’re still looking for people to participate. It sounds like a fun thing to be in but I wouldn’t be terribly disappointed if I’m not picked because I know my outfits tend to be obscure and they’re going for the more recognizable. I’ll definitely go watch though. *has wanted to see a cosplay chess game for a long time* ^_^
