Yesterday was fun. ^_^ I finally went out fabric shopping and spent the afternoon wandering around the fashion district with friends plus visits to Kinokuniya and Image Anime (first time I’d ever been there although I usually see their booths at cons). I found out that I’m apparently not very recognizable out of costume and with my glasses on instead of freaky contacts. XD

Hung out with or saw at some point, [livejournal.com profile] hystericraider, [livejournal.com profile] loudnbothered, [livejournal.com profile] mostflogged[livejournal.com profile] neoangelwink, and [livejournal.com profile] winq. My brother also tagged along even though he wasn’t interested in fabric shopping. He called me when I was already in the city and complained he was really bored at home.

The hanging out part was great but unfortunately, I didn’t have much luck with actually finding fabric I needed. When we were at Spandex House, I saw a swatch of burgundy stretch pleather that would have been good for Morgan LeFlay gloves but there wasn’t any in stock. :-/ Also didn’t have much luck with white fabric for Youko, which was the primary thing I was after. The reference is very vague but I wanted the main fabric to be a pure white Chinese brocade with a bit of color patterning. Other than some white with unsuitable medallion patterns, all I could find was shades of off-white and white on white. In the end, I just gave up on trying to find something better and went downtown to Pearl River where I picked up 6 yards of white on white cherry blossom brocade.

I worked out all the patterns for my Youko costume last week. It’s pretty similar to what I did for Youka the nyosen a few years ago so I had a few pieces to start from. I’m probably going to reuse the white underskirt from that costume although I’ll make a new inner top since I’m doing the sleeves differently this time. And while I’m working on this, maybe I’ll finally redo the sash for the Youka costume; I’ve been meaning to do that for ages so I can wear it again. I’ll start making it this week and hopefully, I can get it done before things get busy at home with Chinese New Year’s preparations.
