Off to a quiet start...
Happy New Year, everyone! :-)
The last few days have been mostly quiet here. My family stayed home for New Year’s Eve as usual and we didn’t go out on New Year’s Day either. But we did go shopping today and got some pretty good deals. The big thing I got was a double breasted wool coat in a mulberry shade at Macy’s. With sales and coupons, it came out to only about 40% of the original price. ^_^ I guess I have to wait until spring to wear it though since it’s much too cold now.
I also picked up lots of gift wrap for 75% off. I bought a 4 roll pack and then when my mother found out how cheap it was, she told me to go back and buy more! XD We ended up with 14 rolls for $4.59 so we won’t have to buy gift wrap again for years!
A strange thing happened when I was waiting to pay for the gift wrap though. The card store had some decorated martini glasses for sale on a table several feet from the cash registers. There was the sound of breaking glass and everyone turned to look. One of the glasses had broken for no apparent reason and there was no one at the table. o_O; The salespeople said they’ve had other things break on their own before, too. I assume there’s some logical explanation but it was kind of freaky.
We also went to JoAnn’s, where I stocked up on half price thread. I looked through fabrics, too, but didn’t find much useful for my planned costumes. Brocades were on sale for $4/yard but none of the colors were really useful for me. I’ll have to make a trip into the city sometime soon to search for fabrics. I haven’t felt very inclined to go out and look since it’s been cold lately and I kind of think I might end up on a wild goose chase. >_>;
Youko shouldn’t be too hard to make but I have a feeling finding a good white Chinese brocade for the main robe might be difficult. I’ve looked a bit the last couple of times I went fabric shopping and I can find stuff like silver and champagne. But white doesn’t seem very popular as a background color for Chinese brocade.
There’s a similar fabric issue for Kyoya since I want to do his final episode outfit in velvet and brocades. The brocades aren’t much of a problem but it seems hard to find a purple velvet that isn’t too light or too dark or too blue. -_-; The one I liked best so far was like $30/yard so I’d rather avoid that.
Also, I got the latest Japanese volume of the PSOH sequel in the mail a few days ago and I’m quite amused by an outfit D has in there. XD I think I’ll end up putting it on my list of possible cosplays. Must remember to take a picture of it to post next time.
