What I've been up to...

Hmm… I’ve been out a lot this past week or so and still haven’t posted about Halloween yet.
Wore my Daphne costume and went into the city with my brother during the afternoon. We took some pictures in the theatre district because I was thinking of a Scooby Doo episode where counterfeiters used a theatre as their hideout. We went by the Belasco Theatre since I’ve heard stories of it being haunted by the person it’s named after. It was under construction and the front was boarded up though so we didn’t actually take any pictures there. We ended up wandering around for a while and using a gate outside the Music Box Theatre instead.
After that, we took some pictures in Times Square. Then, we started to do silly stuff. We went by Midtown Comics, where I bought a volume of Ghost Hunt. And we went to Borders, where I looked through the mystery section. XD Picked up “Ghost at Work” by Carolyn G. Hart. I like her “Death on Demand” series but haven’t tried this new one yet; it’s supposed to feature a mystery-solving ghost. And I found Volume 6 of Petshop of Horrors: Tokyo. I was amused that I bought all of this stuff while dressed as Daphne.
Later, we went by the store and goofed around with some plastic ghost cutouts, having them chase my mini Scooby plushie. Gave out candy to the employees as they left for the day and then went home.
More pics after I get them resized and uploaded.

The wedding was last Sunday. The groom’s mother was one of my mother’s friends and invited us so I didn’t actually know the couple. I was a bit annoyed I didn’t get to wear the outfit I was making for then, especially after rushing to get it done and the dress form collapsing on my finger. My mother stitched the appliques on the jacket for me but then decided the outfit was too red and said I should save it for Christmas. -_- Bah. If I hadn’t been planning to reuse the dress for the Miss Scarlet version of Daphne, I’d be more annoyed. But thanks to those who left compliments on the jacket last time! I guess I need to find a Christmas party to wear it to now. :-P
Wednesday, I went into the city and met
ngmaster for lunch. Hadn’t seen him since AB so it was good to catch up. We hung out for a while afterwards and visited a bead shop since he needed some replacement parts for a broken cell phone charm.
And yesterday, I hung out with
rare_dreamer who I hadn’t seen in ages except for a minute at NYAF; I think the last time I ran into her before that was NYAF 2007! We had lunch and browsed through Midtown Comics, Kinokuniya, and Borders for manga and mystery novels. It was great to have someone to chat with about mystery stuff since only a few people I know are into the genre. ^_^ (And that reminds me that I still never posted the answers for the book meme a couple of weeks back. ^_^;;) We also went in search of yarn since I wanted to do some crochet now that I’m no longer under deadline with sewing stuff. Seems like it would be a good time of year to make an afghan since it’s getting cold.

Date: 2009-11-09 03:56 pm (UTC)Oh and I had meant to ask you this for some time already: What is some non-touristy places that I should go with my equally-geeky friend when we visit NYC? You mentioned Midtown Comics and Kinokuniya, so we are definitely going there, but is there any other places that you recommend?

Date: 2009-11-10 04:35 am (UTC)Hmm... It's been a really long time since I've gone but there's another Japanese bookstore that carries used books called Book-Off. And I've never been there but I've heard friends mention Image Anime. Maybe, Nintendo World if you're into video games? All of those are near midtown. And you could try Forbidden Planet (haven't been there for a very long time either) but that's farther downtown, near Union Square.
