I’d been holding out on doing that 2008 cosplay meme that was going around a few weeks ago since I thought I might get my stained glass fairy costume done before the end of the month. But it looks like that’s not going to happen so I’ll just do it now.

Anime Boston
New costume: Sarah Dupont from Kaleido Star (won Best Master in the hall contest)

Reworn: Count D (19th Century Version)

for an awesome group including [livejournal.com profile] novaraven, [livejournal.com profile] alias_kino, and [livejournal.com profile] doorknocker_dog and a photoshoot with [livejournal.com profile] lionboogy

and confusing people by having D and his grandpa in matching outfits. XD

Count D’s sister

with novaraven as D and her friend as Leon; lousy pic but we only wore these for the ball and didn’t do a proper photoshoot in them

Sakura Matsuri
New costume: Count D (tailcoat outfit) from Petshop of Horrors

AnimeNext
New costume: Cecelia Pegasus from Yu-Gi-Oh

done to go with novaraven’s Pegasus and her YGO group with pics by [livejournal.com profile] stillvisions

Reworn: Count D (tailcoat outfit)

with novaraven as D’s father and her sister as a griffin

Reworn: Count D (blue brocade robe) (no pictures)

Otakon
New costume: none (I didn’t even think I was really going until the last minute. ^_^;)
Reworn: Count D (peacock dress)

Count D (19th Century version)

Count D (tailcoat version)

Sarah

with [livejournal.com profile] neoangelwink as Sora

Cosplay Day at Kinokuniya
Reworn: Count D (tailcoat outfit) (no pic and yeah, I wore that thing a lot this year ^_^;;)

NY Anime Festival
New costume: Eugenie de Danglars from Gankutsuou (won Best in Show in the hall contest)

After all those long costumes, I got tired of dying of heat at cons and made a minidress. XD;

Reworn: Sarah (no picture)

Halloween
Reworn: Count D (blue brocade robe)

Conventions attended: 4
Total worn costumes: 8

New costumes (total): 4
New costumes (that I made): 4
New costumes (closet w/mod): 0
New costumes (borrowed/given): 0

I think I possibly have the fewest new costumes out of everyone that filled this thing out. XD; Oh, well. Four seems to be my usual number of new costumes in a year anyway.

Hey, I just have a quick question about the 19th Century Count D outfit, mainly the shoulder piece. What did you use for the structure of it since I'm going to be making something similar for a costume and am dumbfounded what I'm going to use to make sure it keeps its shape.

Amazing costumes, btw, I always get a kick out of seeing your costumes :D

Thanks. :-)

Ah, for the Avatar costumes you mentioned a while back?

I used some needlepoint canvas that had been sitting in my closet for years after deciding regular interfacing wasn’t stiff enough. I sandwiched a layer of the canvas between 2 of the brocade, basted them all together, and finished the raw edges with applique. The canvas holds the shape pretty well while still being flexible.

I’m not sure if there’s any place in the city that sells needlepoint canvas by the yard. I got a couple of yards years ago during a needlework con. Weave and stiffness can vary though and I’ve seen some rather flimsy varieties that wouldn’t do as well. I think the stuff I have is mono needlepoint canvas made by Zwiegart. (http://www.zweigart.com/) I don’t know a good place to order it off the top of my head since I haven’t needlepointed much for years but I could check for you if you’re interested. :-)

Thanks! :-) Yeah, there are a lot of D's! XD Except for the vacation outfit, I ended up wearing all of them at some point this year.
