Blue or Purple? o_O

Okay, the silk shantung I bought earlier is making me crazy. It looked blue and didn’t seem iridescent at all when I bought it in the store but after I got outside, it looked more purple. And now that I’m back home and in my room, my mind keeps going back and forth between blue and purple. O_o;
It was supposed to be for this but the color for that dress doesn’t seem completely consistent since the shade looks a bit different hereI know it’s not a very good match for either of those blues but I was in a hurry and having trouble finding one that I liked. novaraven already bought velvet for her Pegasus and since I’m mainly doing this dress to go with it, I thought that I should use dressy fabrics to match. Plus I wanted something a bit stiff to help hold the puffy shape of the sleeve so I was looking for things like taffeta and silk shangtung. Most things closer to that shade seemed either too light (was worried they’d look really washed out with the sheen) or too murky. There was one taffeta that looked like it would have been perfect if it didn’t have an iridescent pink sheen to it. -_-; Anyway, I wondering if I’d be better off getting new fabric. The bad thing is I already spent $60 on that blue/purple silk although I suppose I could save it for a dress the next time I get invited to a wedding.
So, time for a poll...

Will write about "Sunday in the Park with George" next time.

Date: 2008-05-22 04:40 am (UTC)While with flash, the fabric looks purple, but if you're brother's the one taking and color/contrast editing the photos, it shouldn't be a problem (my Kosmos wig does all kinds of strange turn-arounds in color with other people's flashes, thankfully my boyfriend photog knows post processing editing enough to fix it...). I say keep the current fabric, you'll be fine, and it'll look fantastic ^^

Date: 2008-05-22 11:55 pm (UTC)Yeah, I've had color problems before with pictures. Way back when I did my first cosplay of Kaiba in the purple coat, it would come out looking blue in most pictures! -_- Thanks for the input!

Date: 2008-05-23 12:15 am (UTC)I had a problem years ago with my first cosplay where the purple coat I had would usually come out looking blue in photos, flash or not. Makes me wonder when I see a costume photo where something looks like it's the wrong color if it's just the camera.

Date: 2008-05-26 07:15 pm (UTC)I'm sorry, This is the reason I never made Cecilia myself. ><; If I was going to make her I'd be using broadcloth just to get a stable shade of blue. As much as I hate plain cotton in fancy dresses I can't think of another way to find that shade with my limited options around here.
I'll try and get you a picture of my fabric samples online tonight if you think it will help. Lighting is very subjective on my velvet as well.
