My teeth have been bothering me slightly for a while and I finally got to the dentist last Wednesday. My mother wanted to take me to her dentist since we thought I might need my remaining wisdom teeth pulled and he is supposed to be really good at extractions. (He already removed 2 of my wisdom teeth a couple of years back, including an impacted one that had to be sawn and taken out in pieces.) It was kind of nuts because this dentist won’t take appointments. You have to just show up, wait, and hope he has time to see you!

After a very long wait, I got my teeth cleaned and was told that one of my wisdom teeth is decaying and needs to be removed. He said I should have the other one taken out too because it’s way out of alignment with my other teeth. But I didn’t want to do it then since it was already 2:30 and I hadn’t had lunch yet. So, I have to go back again sometime to have them taken out and my mother needs some work on her teeth, too. Hopefully, I won’t have to wait 3 hours again! -_-

In costume news, I’ve managed to get a little work done on my new D costume. My pearls came last Monday so I’ve strung the necklaces and the strands for the waist. I used the heaviest beading wire I could for the waist strands so I’m hoping they’ll hold up.

I’ve been working a bit on the collar, too. I got the pieces patterned a while ago and I’m working on the fabric version now. The heavy interfacing I got was still kind of floppy so I ended up pulling out the couple of yards of needlepoint canvas I’ve had stashed in my closet for years and using that. Possibly overkill but it does hold the shape very well since it’s stiff. ^_^;; Still need to work out how to do the trim along the edges. Doing it as bias binding wasn’t working because of all the curves so I guess the next thing to try is appliqué.

Haven’t done much on the costume the last few days so I need to get back to work on it since there’s only about a month and a half left to NYAF. I’m sure I can get the clothes done by then but I’m feeling a bit iffy about whether I’ll also be able to have the phoenix in time since my propmaking skills are almost non-existent other than plushies. ^_^;;; Need to start figuring out what to do about feathers and stuff.

ew, the dentist is no fun! >< Even never having any cavities I hate going. My dentist is old school and doesn't believe in freezing unless you really need it.

You could try fabric spiked or craft foam for feathers?

I need an attack/animal for Sofu if I enter cosplay chess. Can you help me think of one?

I ran into Pon-chan the other day and she said she might come to Boston con with us. At least D will have an alarmingly cute badger to attack people with. ^^; I still have the T-chan and Tet-chan costumes just lying around here too minus the people to wear them.

Yeah, trips to the dentist aren’t fun. I hadn’t gone for nearly 2 years since I usually don’t have problems with my teeth. >_>; Well, at least, we don’t have Count D’s dentist, right? ^_^;;

Fabric might work. Craft foam might be a bit hard for me to get these days since the crafts chain here went out of business and the remaining ones require a car to get to. I think I’d like to go with a more realistic look for the phoenix, too. I love my T-Chan and Q-Chan plushies but they can look a little cartoony when compared to my costumes. ^_^;

Hmm… I’m not sure what would be a good animal for Sofu. The teddy bear? ^_^;; He appears so little that other than that, we only know about the kirin from the side story and the vampire couple. And I guess there’s the phoenix that goes with that robe but that might not work well. Even though everyone’s told to be careful about not damaging other people’s costumes when acting out attacks, it’s best to avoid fragile props. If all else fails, you could use your nails. I was thinking about doing that last year as a failed attack. XD;

Ah, I actually saw her briefly at Anime North. She recognized me and introduced herself as the Pon-Chan from your group. It would be cool if we had a Pon-Chan for Boston. ^_^ Too bad you don’t have people to wear the other costumes though.

Ironically, my brother was asking me about costumes the other day and saying he might try cosplay. O_o;; But he only wants to stick to street clothes type outfits. And he’s never read Petshop so it’s extremely unlikely we’d be able to rope him into our group. I should try making a post sometime soon to see if I can find some more people to join us since a bunch of people on my friends list go to AB.

Your brother cosplaying?

.... street clothes.... Leon??

*laugh* Yes, Leon obviously wears street clothes but if novaraven is able to make it to Anime Boston, she should have a friend who cosplays Leon with her. That's why I was overlooking him. ^_^;

Hmm, if your brother's short and quiet, he could be Chris then? Ah well. Couldn't help but to state the obvious. I'd love to meet you all some day - there's not really a group down here.

Yeah, it would be cool to meet you sometime. ^_^ There isn’t really a group here either. The few other PSOH cosplayers I’ve meet have been at cons at least a few hours away and novaraven is in Canada so there's no one local for me. Still have to decide what cons I’ll go to next year. I have a couple of definites but not certain about others yet. Not sure I’d ever get too far out of the northeast though since I don’t drive and I won’t fly.

Well, my brother’s several inches taller than me so it would look a bit silly if he were Chris. I doubt he’d want to play a little kid either since he’s almost 21. ^_^;; Hmm… But now this has got me thinking he could work for Taizu from the sequel. Not sure if you’ve seen him since it’s not coming out in English until next year. Taizu is this mobster from Hong Kong who owns the building where D’s new Tokyo shop is. Usually wears a dark suit and tie and his role is kind of like Leon in the early volumes; he’s always trying to get evidence that D is doing something wrong although his goal is to kick him out of the building rather than arrest him. XD;

Still, I think my brother would probably want to pick something from a series he did know if he actually wanted to cosplay so it’s probably useless speculation. XD;

Ah, I didn't know a sequel was on the way, but then I haven't been on the up-and-up lately. Thanks for the heads up; I have something to look forward to! ^.^

Yeah, there’s a sequel. So far, there are 4 volumes of it in Japanese and Tokyopop is supposed to start releasing it in February. While it’s good that there will be an English translation, I’m a bit annoyed how long the wait is going to be since I have all the Japanese volumes but haven’t been able to find fan translations beyond volume 2 and have no idea how to read japanese myself. ^_^;

I think fabric is your best option for the pheonix since real feathers are so expensive.

Maybe I should make a dragon? I could wear it like a boa, or have it longer and more like a puppet that moves on poles?

I still haven't found anyone whos driving down to Boston Con so I think i have to stick to whatever I can fit into me and Garths suitcases. Thats the main reason I'm bringing PSOH and twelve Kingdoms, because my Trinity Blood costumes can't be packed like that at all.

Are the hotel rooms going fast? I should really get one booked, but I still don't know whos coming with me or how many beds we'll need. I wish other people would plan ahead a little and not leave it up to me all the time. >< I don't even have a credit card!

A dragon sounds like a good idea. ^_^ I think something you could hold or drape around your neck would work best. The squares are only about 2’ wide so there’s limited space if you’re picked to be a piece.

Ooh, for attack ideas and to get an idea of how special attacks work, you could try watching the 2006 match. The whole thing is on YouTube in 2 parts (about 90 minutes total). I’d nearly forgotten about it. Seems like no one has the whole game from this year though since I’ve only found some small snippets.

Part 1: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rXw9V4hcTA0

Part 2: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XgEuw4WAuKY

Yeah, some costumes just don’t do well with suitcases. -_- Since we won’t be going to Anime North, I’m tempted to ask my father if he’d take the weekend off and go to Boston with us so I don’t have to deal with stuffing everything into suitcases. Without a car, I’d probably have to leave T-Chan home since I already want to bring the phoenix and having to carry 2 large props on top of other luggage would be too much. I’ll try to bring my nyosen uniform if you get the Twelve Kingdoms stuff done. That one’s harder to travel with but it’d be a little less random to have Youka with Youko and Keiki than Renrin. ^_^;

Hmm… I’m not sure how quickly the hotel is filling up. I assume the rooms with 2 beds would be the first to go though. I’m not sure who’s coming with me either. My brother is but his friends say they don’t know yet. Usually it doesn’t cost anything to cancel or change reservations so I’ll probably just book a room for 4 and then lower it to 3 or 2 if necessary.

Ouch, the wisdom teeth needing to be removed doesn't sound too fun. >_o;

The icon you have of your sequin flower is so pretty, by the way. :)

Thank you. :-)

Yeah, wisdom tooth removal isn't fun. It tends to hurt for a few days afterwards, too. >_
