A little more costume work and a drabble

Let’s see… I’ve gotten a bit more work done on my D costume. Made the pieces for the middle layer in the skirts. I just did strips which I’ll sew to the sides of the velvet layer to cut back on bulk since there are supposed to be three layers there plus the underskirt. But I tacked down the edges of the bindings in the back by hand this time and it looks so much better to my eye without visible stitches and with less rippling in the edgings. So, now, I’m tempted to go back and rip out the bindings on the velvet and redo them even if no one else is likely to notice the difference. ^_^;;;
My parents were asking me the other day what I wanted for a birthday present so I think I’ll ask them to buy me the pearls for the costume. Need to decide on exactly what color I want first though. If I pick one of the Swarovski colors though, I’ll probably order online since it’s cheaper that way.
Today is the Chinese Mid-Autumn Festival. We have mooncakes as usual and my father got a box with a dozen small ones in various flavors as a gift from his business partner. We’ve only tried one of the pineapple ones so far. I guess it’s okay but I never liked mooncakes that much.
I wrote a PSOH drabble for the occasion, too. Believe it or not, I managed to work the Petshop drabble community’s latest prompt of “War” into it. My brain makes the wackiest connections at times! *laugh*
Suspicious, Leon poked the wedge of light brown paste enveloped in a thin crust. “Count, what weird stuff are you trying to feed me now?”
D sniffed. “That is not ‘weird stuff.’ It’s lotus seed mooncake, detective. They’re traditional for the Mid-Autumn Festival. Folklore says they helped overthrow a dynasty by carrying hidden messages.”
“War with cakes? You don’t call that weird?” Leon rolled his eyes but took a bite of the pastry anyway. “What the—” He plucked a piece of paper from between his teeth, opened it.
D smiled cheerfully. “A note from Chris. He liked the story.”

Date: 2007-09-26 12:29 am (UTC)heeey so you're having the pearls as a birthday present? *_* Hm, yeah, you still need to decide the color of them x.x At least you'll have them without having to pay, so you can save for the next cosplay ^^
Chinese Mid-Autumn? Didn't know it o.o As a matter of fact I don't know a thing about China, apart from some kanjis xD And that mandarin is DAMN difficult to learn!! X.X It is sooooooooo cute, but I just can't make all the wide range of sounds it is needed x.x Norwegian is easier, if you consider this point. i.i
*the one who has a friend studying Mandarin, an 'uncle' who speaks cantonese [?] and mandarin {he was born in Macau}, a friend who studies swedish and a father who started studying german - but gave up after a few weeks*
And I can't even speak English properly, especially if someone asks me to READ out loud in English - as a matter of fact, I am not the one to be asked to read things to people, I am so shy I start to stutter. u.u
Anyway, good luck with the pearls, again ^^

Date: 2007-09-26 07:20 pm (UTC)Yeah, I decided I should ask for the pearls as a present since there’s not much that I want.
I can only speak a bit of Cantonese (badly) and don’t know Mandarin or how to read Chinese. I used to know more Italian than Chinese (had Italian classes for 6 years in school) but I’ve forgotten most of it now. ^_^;; My mother was in Macau shortly after leaving China and before going to Hong Kong. And my father can speak Spanish since his family immigrated to Cuba from China and they lived there for some years before the revolution.

Ooooh Italian *_* My great-grandfather was italian, Giuseppe Ferdinando. I didn't know him, he died looong before I was born T_T I don't speak Italian, though - I speak only a bad, bad English and osme sentences in Japanese [and even less sentences in norwegian/german xD]. And Portuguese, of course.
Hm, so.. your parents are chinese? o.o How pretty!! *_* Your mother lived in Macau.. But she doesn't speak Portuguese, does she?
Hm, sorry, so many questions x.x Don't need to answer if you don't feel like x.x

Date: 2007-09-26 06:38 pm (UTC)Yeah, the pearls as a birthday present seems like a good idea since there's usually not much that I want anyway.
