Update

Let’s see… Other than that unexpected tornado, the past week hasn’t been terribly exciting but it has been productive. Much of my paperwork backlog has been taken care of but there are still some things to reorganize. I’ve got another little needlework project in progress now and I’ve been spending the last few days helping my mother paint the basement, including the room my parents are letting me have for a sewing room. ^_^

The main part of the painting in there is done already; only the door and some touchups are left. The wall color is a medium purple and the ceiling, window, door, and trim are white. Mostly, I’ve been painting things like windows and edges with a little handheld brush because I’ve discovered I’m not very good at getting paint even with those large rollers. ^_^;

I’ve also finally managed to get around to watching a couple of the DVDs I bought at AnimeNext. First was volume 3 of Le Chevalier D’Eon. It’s kind of weird and more gory than I’d normally like but the artwork is gorgeous *_* and it has the type of mysterious puzzle-like plot that I love. But considering that I don’t care for politics at all, it’s kind of funny how I end up liking series like this and The Twelve Kingdoms which have lots of political intrigue. o_o;

I’m getting interested in possibly doing a cosplay from it (always wanted to do a period gown type costume) but want to see the rest of the series first. Unless it’s something super long, I like to watch/read an entire series before deciding if I’ll cosplay from it. I sew slowly and only manage about 4 costumes a year so I’d rather see all the outfits before deciding what to make! ^_^; So, I won’t come to a more definite conclusion until around the end of the year.

Also watched the first volume of Tsubasa. I’ve read the first 5 volumes of the manga, too, and I don’t think there have been any big differences between the two so far. (It's been a while since I read the first volume.) It’s interesting enough that I’ll keep watching/reading but for now, I’m not into it enough that I’d consider cosplaying from it.

I suppose it would be more fun to watch if I knew more about Clamp stuff since there are lots of cameos from their other works. I have to admit I don’t even know much about CCS. I just vaguely remember seeing a few episodes of the dub when it was on TV, before I was particularly interested in anime. ^_^;;

Still have volume 3 of Paradise Kiss to watch. Maybe, sometime this week...

CCS is cute and fluffy, I suggest you read XXXholic and X/1999 both are dark and has alot of occult reference in it. However X/1999 has been put on hold so is not going end anytime soon or continue for that matter. You don't really need to see Clamp's other stuff to enjoy Tsubasa, but some background information might help so you can just read a quick summary of it on wiki ^_^

Ah, I've actually read the first 2 volumes of XXXholic. It reminded me of PSOH but I didn't like it as much; the characters just didn't appeal as much for me. ^_^;; Haven't checked out X/1999 but will keep that suggestion in mind when I'm looking for new manga! :-)

Forgive me the intrusion, but I strongly recommend you to read X/1999 *___* Yeah, X rocks. It's dark, a lot! And the whole plot is amazing. BUT, CLAMP girls take a bit too long to make everything make sense. i'd suggest you to read the manga, watch the TV series and NOT to watch the Movie, The movie is just ridiculous. x.x

And well, reading about CLAMP's other mangas would be advisable, too. Not that it would be *vital* for you to understand Tsubasa, but sometimes there are funny situations or little details that you just let go because you don't know their other stuff... I don't know all of their mangas, but luckily I do know a bit about their major ones [and A LOT about CCS and something about X xD] and that helps understanding some situations...

Again, I'm sorry, I am a bit of an intruder xD

you're not an intruder, X/1999 does indeed rock but I hope Clamp continues it ;__;

[identity profile] helena-lee.livejournal.com 2007-08-15 01:25 am (UTC)(link)
Hahaha yes, I forgot they stopped X for a while T_T I really REALLY hope they continue it because it is SO unfair to let us waiting x.x especially because X is a bit 'old' xD
I heard they stopped it because they got problems with the magazine in which X was being published. I don't know if I believe it, because they could easily find another one that could publish it without demanding absurdities. Anyway, yeah, it's going to be a long wait for us to know the end of this manga.

And the movie REALLY sucks. u.u A friend of mine watched it before reading the manga or watching the tv series and he hated it xD No one can change his mind now, he hates X forever. T_T

Okay. Thanks for the suggestion. :-) Will have to look it up when I remember.

Yes try out X/1999 is really a good read! I liked the movie but um is not a good starting point if you never read the manga

I've just started watching d'eon too. I know a few people who cosplay from it and there are a lot of interesting designs if you like big dresses. I was thinking of doing Robin myself, but only as an extra if I get caught up on the other cosplays I plan this year. It would be easy to pack tho and that might be worth moving it up on my list.

Hmm... If I did cosplay from Le Chevalier, I think I'd most likely do one of the women. The guys mostly don't interest me enough design-wise. Might think about D'eon but if I did, it'd probably be a Lia-possessed version since I wouldn't be able to do his ponytail properly thanks to my annoying hairline. ^_^;;

If you do make D'eon, stay away from the purple and white dress. It's overcosplayed. So is his sisters red and white dress from the very beginning, altho I've never seen one that's done correctly.

I hear there are alot of Robins around as well but I've never looked for them, it's a character that blends in well and doesn't stand out. I'm just looking at choices that would fit well in a suitcase and I'm not tall enough for any of the other guys and don't want to be D'eon. He's nice and all but I always shy away from lead charcters unless I have a group and noone else will fit it.

I think the blue and white mens uniform is very striking. And I like the cavalry helmet and sword. It doesn't stand out much tho as being unique.

Most designs from this series do not stand out, even the womens dresses aren't very special. They're just regular period costumes but that also means they can be reused well for other things, especially the male costumes. A few ad ons and they make good pirate wear. ^^

Hmm… Are there that many of the purple dress already? o_o I know the series is relatively new and only started in Japan last year. I’ve yet to actually see any Le Chevalier cosplayers around here and I’m not even sure if anyone else I know is watching the series. I’ve seen a few cosplays from it online but it’s been a while since I last searched.

But if I did decide to cosplay D’Eon, it wouldn’t be the purple dress. I don’t like how it’s only ankle length and the way it narrows in near the hem; I think that makes it look kind of silly. >_>; I wouldn’t do Lia’s red dress either because I dislike the brownish panels on it.

Right now, I think if I did cosplay from the series, one of the women would be more likely. So far, for Lia, I like her white and blue gown from the portrait at the Russian palace but I’d like to know her whole story first. (Not sure how far you are in the series or if you’ve seen it yet. I’ve watched the first 12 episodes.) The Marquise de Pompadour’s gown seems to be the fanciest and could be fun to make but I’d also want to know the rest of her story. For series I like enough to cosplay, I’ll consider doing a character I’m indifferent towards if I like the costume but I won’t do characters I dislike so I try to find out everything first.

And it’s not very fancy but I like Ekaterina’s disguise outfit with the veiled hat. I assume her part in the series is over since the Four Musketeers have left Russia and are going to England. So, that one would be a possibility for me. But there’s still half of the series left and more characters to meet so it’s going to be a while before I know something more definite! ^_^;
