So, I’ve been thinking a bit about what conventions I’ll go to within the next year and the next few costumes I’m likely to make. Thoughts on conventions so far:

MangaNext: Will go for a day.
NY Anime Festival: The Javits Center isn’t ideal for cosplay but will definitely go since it’s local.
Katsucon?: Never have gone before and I’m wondering if it’s worth trying to go next year. I’d like to travel for at least one con other than AB but mid-February doesn’t seem like the best time of year to travel.
Anime Boston: Would definitely go since I loved it this year. ^_^
Anime North?: Very unlikely at this point. My family didn’t seem to like this last trip to Canada much so I doubt I can get them up there again next year and it’s probably too much of a trip to do on my own.
AnimeNext: No dates announced yet but will go like every year.
Otakon?: Don’t know. Maybe, if there were groups for some of the obscure stuff I cosplay and people I wouldn’t see at any other cons going. I didn’t care that much for the con itself when I went last year and skipped it this year.

I usually try to do one new costume per con but right now, I’m thinking I won’t bother with making anything new for MangaNext. For that, I’ll probably pull out my newer Ayame since it’s only been worn at Anime Boston and I don’t have any great pictures of it. Instead, I’ll concentrate on stuff for December and next year. Compared to last year, most of my stuff this year has been pretty dull since all the Ayame problems tired me out and left me unmotivated for some months. But another couple of weeks and I should be ready to jump back into working on some more elaborate stuff!

So, this is the new idea I mentioned a while back. I loved this outfit but always figured it would be too hot since I mostly make it to summer events. But NYAF in December should finally give me a good chance to make and wear it. I’m excited about this one and it turns out [livejournal.com profile] novaraven is planning to make the outfit this winter, too. :-D We were discussing ideas for colors and fabrics the other week. And talking about confusing people by wearing our versions together if we manage to meet at a con again next year. *laugh* And this’ll give me one more costume option for D if a Petshop of Horrors group does come together for sometime next year. ^_^

I’d like to build the bird as a prop, too, but not sure what would be the best way of going about it. I have ideas of things to do for the tail feathers but it’s the body I’m not sure about. The little fake birds that I’ve bought as props use painted foam as a base but I’d worry about it being too fragile if I did that. I generally refuse to use delicate materials that can be damaged easily because I hate redoing things and would be mad if something got damaged.

I like the unique artwork in Gankutsuou and always thought it would be fun to do something with those crazy patterns but didn’t have an outfit I especially wanted to make. I’m reconsidering though since [livejournal.com profile] genkitozuku mentioned a while back that she and a friend were planning to do Franz and Albert for Anime Boston. So, I’m thinking about possibly doing an outfit and joining them for a mini group. (Plus, I’ve been in a rut lately with finding new series I want to cosplay which partly explains why I’ve been doing so many PSOH costumes.)

I actually like Haydee’s outfits best but I won’t do characters with strange skin colors because I refuse to spend all that time on makeup at a con and would worry about it getting on the costume. So, it’s going to be between Eugenie and Valentine.

Eugenie would go better with Albert and Franz with the three of them being childhood friends. The outfits I like best for her would be the concert dress and the wedding gown but I think I’ve done too many evening gown costumes lately. ^_^;; And I’m not sure if either would look good on me anyway with the low back on one and the plunging neckline on the other. Out of her regular clothes, I sort of like this outfit. (Not sure where the hat came from though since she didn’t have one in the actual episode.) Patterning the fabric for the dress would be fun and I’ve already got a couple of ideas on things I could try for it.

And for Valentine, I like her outfit from the last episode. The matching parasol (not pictured here) and all the designs would be a more interesting challenge. Plus, Valentine’s wig might work better on me since I tend to have problems with my dark hairline showing on the sides of my head due to my huge skull. (drives me nuts when that happens, especially when it’s a light haired character -_-;) This would probably take much longer then the Eugenie outfit though and I don’t relate to Valentine as much.

I might possibly just choose based on how long it takes me to make the new Count D and what else I would like to have finished for next spring/summer. The nice thing about either of these is that they should be much easier to pack than most of my other costumes. I really could use a few more cosplays that don’t have long sleeves, long skirts, and layers so that I’m not always buried under fabric at summer cons. XD;

This was originally supposed to be for this year’s AnimeNext but that didn’t happen since I was feeling too worn out and short on time. I already have the sleeves done and a wig which needs more work. I’ll aim to have it done for either AB or AN.

Thanks for the encouragement. :-) I had been planning to use Sora for a masquerade walk-on so hopefully, she'll get a bit of stage time next year.

Well, that D is going to be literally hot at least! XD;

Hopefully, I'll get something Gankutsuou done in time for Boston. They look like they'd be such fun to do.
