How not to make piping... ^_^;

This morning started off with a nice bit of news. I’ve been picked for the Sugar vs. Angst themed cosplay chess match at Anime Boston and should be on the sugar side as Count D. I thought he’d fit well considering his major sweet tooth. :-D Anyone else going to AB apply?
Unfortunately, I’ve hit a small snag with Ayame’s coat. I had bought some expensive gold metallic ribbon to make into piping to use on the coat since I didn’t like any of the gold fabrics I was finding that much. I managed to make the piping but found that it’s rather stiff and doesn’t turn corners well at all. So, it’s basically $15 of wasted ribbon because I cut it up to make the piping. -_-; Well, at least, I know what not to do the next time I want to try piping on a costume.
Since I want to make sure the coat is done in time for AB, I decided I’d be better off going with my older methods instead and handstitching some thin gold cording to the coat for the trim. Went into the city to pick up several yards of it this afternoon and get a few other notions that I needed.
Otherwise, work on the coat is going fairly well. I probably have about half of the basic sewing on the body of the coat done but need to go back and bind my seams since I’m not putting in a lining.
Well, should be just staying home this weekend so more sewing and some catching up with paperwork. It's been a while since I've filed stuff. ^_^;
