While I was working on more sequined flowers for my Terra costume today, I finally watched one of the Galaxy Railways DVDs I got at Comic-Con. The premise of the series is that space travel becomes possible via high tech trains and an organization called the Space Defense Force is responsible for rescuing people when there are accidents or other problems with these trains. The main character, Manabu, has dreamed of joining the SDF since he was a kid and the series follows him as he pursues this ambition, despite his mother’s initial opposition. The first couple of episodes were kind of depressing because he lost his father and his older brother while they were serving in the SDF and that was why his mother didn’t want him to join. Maybe, she was right since Manabu seems rather reckless and rushes into situations impulsively quite a bit! The rest of the DVD seems kind of episodic with Manabu and the rest of his platoon having to deal with various train problems, including a hostage situation, a ghost train, and a hijacking attempt. I guess it was okay but sci-fi isn’t really my thing.

I’m almost finished with the first flower for my Terra dress now. ^_^ I’m sequining the fabric before I cut the pieces out since I figure it would be much easier to embellish flat bits of fabric than a sewn garment. I’m cutting out pieces a bit larger than my dress panels so I can have extra room to put on my hoops. (And it’s easier than trying to sew a whole 3 yard piece of fabric at once! XD;) I’m hoping that I can get a couple more flowers done over the weekend and possibly finish the decoration for the front panel before AnimeNext. I’m not planning on doing any flowers from about the waistline down to knee level, since I don’t want to sit on my sequins and it’ll be covered by scarves, so that should help things go quicker.
