Pan-fried flounder =/= sushi
Sep. 23rd, 2008 10:13 pmAlthough my birthday isn’t until the end of the month, we went out to dinner Saturday night with relatives to celebrate early. We tried a new Chinese restaurant that just opened and their kitchen staff must have flunked out of cooking school since it was ridiculously bad. O_O;
It took half an hour for the food to start arriving. Somehow, they managed to mess up plain white rice. O_o; It was undercooked and my parents sent it back. We had to wait to get new bowls but it was still undercooked so we gave up and ordered noodles instead. At the Chinese restaurants here, they generally serve a dish or two every few minutes but the last couple of dishes took so long we had to send the waiter to check if they’d forgotten to cook them. When the last dish (a whole pan-fried flounder) finally arrived, my father started dismantling it and found the center wasn’t thoroughly cooked. So, that got sent back to the kitchen, too, and it came back as a burnt overcooked mess since it wasn’t in one piece anymore. -_-; Our relatives at the next table (there were 17 of us so we had two big tables) also had the same kinds of problems with their food.
In the end, we took the ice cream cake we had brought along back home to eat. And found that it was melting since the restaurant’s refrigerator didn’t seem to be cold enough. The whole thing was laughably bad but I guess it was a bit more interesting than the usual boring birthday dinner. XD;
And I finished painting my Eugenie shoes. These were originally patent leather so I had to sand the shiny finish off with some emery boards before I could paint them. I think they’re kind of ugly but they looked like multi-colored stripey things in the reference so that’s what I did. XD

Painting for the jacket is done but I still have to finish sewing it. Got my hat in the mail Saturday but haven’t started painting it yet. It’ll be close but I think I should be able to finish what’s left by the time the con starts. ^_^;
