So, yesterday, I ventured out to Long Island to meet up with some friends and play mini golf. I don’t go out that way often so it was my first time taking the LIRR. Got into Freeport around 11 and discovered that the Nautical Mile is really dead in the late morning/early afternoon. o_o;

There were mostly restaurants and bars, some fish markets, boat dealers, and a few other shops; very few people about and a lot of stuff wasn’t open yet. I had thought there would be a bit more to see during the day/touristy things to do, considering that the LIRR actually had a special package to go there. I ended up just walking around, browsing the couple of shops that were open, having lunch, and sitting with a book to kill time until the others arrived a while after 2. If I’d known the area was so quiet that time of day, I’d have spent the morning in the city and taken a later train out instead.

Mini golf was fun though. ^_^ Even if I’m terrible at it! I managed to knock the ball onto a completely different green one time. XD; Saw [livejournal.com profile] animeangelblue, [livejournal.com profile] neoangelwink and several others which was nice since I rarely get to hang out with them outside of cons.

The mini golf course looked pretty plain but that seems to be standard for the few I’ve seen around here. Hmm… Are wacky obstacles just not in fashion anymore for mini golf? When I think of mini golf, I always think of silly stuff like miniature windmills. XD; Years ago, when my family went up to the Adirondacks for our vacations, we usually played through the Around the World and Around the U.S. courses at Lake George. They were cute and had the most fun stuff I’ve ever seen on any mini golf courses. A starting gate for the Kentucky Derby, a mini Taj Mahal, a giant Maine lobster, a Chinese rickshaw, a Texas oil rig, a NYC subway themed hole, and so on. (I have a silly picture somewhere where it looks like the lobster is pinching my father! XD;)

Anyway, I think the others went to get ice cream after the game. But, unfortunately, I had to run off to catch the train back to the city. ^_^; Made it back to the station about 3 minutes before the train arrived and once back in the city, managed to get downtown just in time to get a ride home with my father.
