Back online (sort of...)
Apr. 7th, 2007 01:09 amAs I mentioned a while back, we’ve been having renovations done on the house. They started working on my brother’s room on Monday so everything had to be moved out, including the equipment for our Internet connection. The contractors are taking quite a while longer than I expected which is why I haven’t had a connection all week. (They were making a new doorway into the next room but my father didn’t like what they first came up with and had them redo it. Then, my brother complained he didn’t like the second version and they ended up redoing it again!) They’re still not done but my brother moved the equipment back and plugged it in for the night.
Anyway, I got a fair bit of costume stuff done while the connection was down. I got Ayame finished, after going out to pick up more lace to redo the bottom of the shirt. Just have to get my references and notes ready for the Anime Boston hall contest now.
I also finally finished up the sleeves for my Sora costume. They’ve been sitting nearly finished for weeks while I worked on Ayame. I got more Sharpies to use for another batch of wig dye but haven’t gotten to fixing the wig yet. Usually, I’d leave things like wigs and accessories for last but I think it’d be best to do them first on this costume. I want to leave things like sewing the skirt until closer to AnimeNext in case my waistline changes again.
And I’ve gotten started on my Terra repairs/improvements. I bought new fabric and made another scarf to replace the plain gold one I had in the middle. I hadn’t been completely happy with the color when made it last year so when I found a more sandy shade of gold in the same material, I decided I might as well just make a new one instead of adding some embellishment to the old one. I hand beaded a gold and pink trim along the edges and love how the beading hangs over the bottom purple scarf. ^_^

I’m considering replacing the pink scarf on top, too, but haven’t decided yet. I really like the fabric I used for that one but the glittery floral pattern on it hardly shows in photos since it’s relatively close to the background color. And the glitter is gradually falling off, too. -_-;
I’ve tried to fix up my wig a bit but had limited luck. I washed it since I’ve heard that is supposed to reset curly wigs but it’s still somewhat messy. The problem seems to mainly be strands from different curls getting tangled together into little frizzy masses. Anyone have good tips for keeping curly wigs neat?
And I’m getting ready to take apart the dress at the neckline so I can take it in a bit at the top and shorten the straps. It fits fine at bust level and below but the neckline is a couple of inches too big and gaps away from my torso.
*glances back at last entry* And wow, I was a bit surprised a few people could actually imagine me making that costume with the pleather and the crazy amounts of lacing. o_o I know I can be pretty silly but I always thought my costumes themselves tended to give a more conservative impression. I guess not though. *laugh* The encouraging comments are kind of giving me weird ideas now about taking that design with all the lacing and turning it into something more respectable looking that I might actually wear, like a velvet dress with the lacing and extra panels underneath. >_>;;
