New costume started ^_^
Jan. 8th, 2007 03:20 pmI got started on the sleeve thingys for my Sora costume over the weekend. The reference just shows them as plain pink but I wanted to embellish and make them sparkly since it is supposed to be a circus costume. I sort of wanted a color closer to my fabric but the hotfix sequins only seem to come in one shade of pink. I love how the embellishment is coming out but it’s going slowly even if it is faster than regular sequins. ^_^; It takes a while to place the sequins and crystals into patterns plus the sequins have a tendency to stick together so you have to make sure there aren’t two or more stuck together.
Went to the local Rag Shop yesterday to pick up a pattern to use for my Ayame shirt and found that they seem to have gotten rid of all their Simplicity stuff and only had McCall’s. The pattern I wanted was McCall’s so it wasn’t a problem right then but if they’re no longer stocking Simplicity, it might become a nuisance when trying to get patterns in the future. :-/ I don’t know of many places in the city that even carry sewing patterns; One of the shops with more extensive stock is closing and another place seemed to be closing out most of their patterns. It would be annoying if ordering online became the only way to get patterns other than McCall’s. >_< (Where do the other NYC area cosplayers get their patterns, anyway? *wonders if there’s someplace she doesn’t know about*)
I also got a fake peach to use as a prop with my Renrin costume and some black fabric to use with the lace for Ayame’s shirt. I’ll probably get started on the shirt after I finish the sleeves for Sora.
Hmm… Looking at Cosplay Lab over the weekend, I see they’re using Yu-Gi-Oh for their look-alike contest this month. Maybe, I’ll enter my purple Kaiba costume just for laughs. It was my first cosplay and not very accurate so highly unlikely to win anything since I know there are much better YGO costumes out there. But I actually have a costume that qualifies for once! XD With my tendency to make obscure stuff, none of my characters has ever been eligible for any of the past Cosplay Lab contests. I’m a bit surprised they’ve never done a Fruits Basket contest. Of the series I’ve done, I would have guessed that FB would be most likely to come up in one of the look-alike contests but it hasn’t yet. It’s nice that they seem to be moving towards more series contests though since it will allow for more variety in terms of characters and let them use series that don’t have individual characters popular enough for their own contest.
