The weekend

Well, the weather was nice yesterday and today so the weekend didn’t turn out to be completely boring as I thought it might be.

On Sunday, my family went into the city because my brother wanted to buy a light meter. (I think by now, he must have spent much more on photography equipment than I’ve spent on all of my costumes combined since I started cosplaying! ^_^;;;) While we were there, I went to check another art supply place for fabric paints. I was pleasantly surprised to find that the Blick store near NYU had nearly all the Lumiere shades vs. Pearl which usually seems to be out of a dozen. >_>; I wasn’t sure if they would bother carrying specialty paints like that in the store, even if they’re on the website. Also, went to another fabric store to look for totetsu plushie fabric but they didn’t even have any shaggy fake fur at all.

I tested out my paints and did a feather on scrap fabric last night. Looks pretty good although my greens came out of 3 different bottles and you can barely tell them apart... I realize it’s kind of lopsided since the fabric scrap was only so big and I didn’t get the eye part right since I didn’t look at the illustration when I was painting. >_>; But it’s just to get an idea of what I’m doing so I guess it doesn’t matter that much. The colors here look somewhat lighter than they are due to the flash from the camera.

Today, we went to the mall where I searched for magenta eye shadow. I noticed on the manga covers, Count D often seems to have pink eye makeup, usually a very bright pink. So, I was trying to find a suitable shade and I only turned up a few expensive options. There was a Lancome shade called “the pink carpet” that would have been great but they were out of it so I’ll have to check again in a few weeks.

Also, looked for new rugs for my room. My mother took my old rugs out while I was at Otakon, saying they shed too much and collect too much dust. Picked out a couple of small floral ones that were on sale but haven’t brought them up here yet.

And I tried to find the Oragami Quilting book I mentioned in my last entry but neither bookstore I checked had it. Bought a copy of the Vogue Sewing book instead since I didn’t have a general sewing guidebook yet.
