Fabric shopping!
Aug. 31st, 2006 04:52 pmFinally went fabric shopping yesterday and got stuff for Count D's peacock dress. ^_^ I bought dark navy microfiber fabric for the outside. Smooth, not too flimsy, and looked better than some of the silks I saw there. ^_^; And a deep purple low sheen satin for the lining. The person at the store gave me a discount on them plus let me have what was left on the rolls for no extra charge (both bolts would have been nearly out after my fabric was cut). Yay! ^_^ Saved more than $10 compared to the prices on the bolts and got about 9-10 yards of fabric for $32.
The Lumiere fabric paints I was planning to use for painting the feathers show up well on the fabric but I need to get more colors. (Forgot something as usual! XD;) Pearl Paint was out of the blues and greens when I bought the shades I do have. I like that they carry specialty paints like this in their crafts store but sometimes it’s annoying how many colors are out of stock. -_- Well, until I can get them, I suppose I can work on pants to go under the outfit.
I didn’t do as well looking for plushie fabrics. I was able to get some yellow fake fur for Q-Chan but couldn’t find anything shaggy enough in a suitable color for T-Chan (the totetsu). (They’ve been shown colored a couple of different ways on the manga covers but I had picked out the versions I liked best.) And I’m not even sure what colors would be good for the bird yet. I think I’ll make the dress before I even worry about that.
Hmm… Anyone know if the small panels of Craft Fur (I think that was the name on the packaging) you can find in some crafts stores come in larger sizes? I’ve seen it in a shaggy orange that would work well for the totetsu but he should be large enough to cover most of my lap so it would be a bit annoying to have to patch him together from a pile of 9”X12” pieces.
