Ugh...

Ack, less than a week until Otakon and it looks like I might end up there all by myself. -_-; My brother has decided he’s not going and my father is now saying that he might not be able to take so much time off because he’s too busy at the store. I think he now wants to drive me to Baltimore and then come home instead of staying for the weekend. Bah. While working hard and making money is good, it’s ridiculous that we own the business and he can’t even take a few days off! >_< He hasn’t had a vacation since 2002!

But barring a major emergency in the next few days, I’ll get to Otakon somehow. *wonders if she could pack everything without wrinkling and compactly enough to take on a train or bus* I really don’t want to give up on the idea of going because I’ve spent so much time working on Terra the last couple of months. If my father hadn’t said we could go to Otakon, I would just have worked leisurely on it for next year instead of rushing to finish it for next week. Plus, it was to be a chance to finally go to a con outside the NY area.

Costume work is going well though. I finished the dress yesterday and it looks good. ^_^ I ended up changing my mind again about the trim for the dress and used the light gold braid that I had bought for my purple scarf. So, I now need to go out and buy more for the scarf. >_>; I think I’ll put that off until Monday because knowing me, if I went today, I’d think of something else I need after some more work on the costume. My costume work usually goes slowly because I seem to have an inability to get all of my supplies for a costume at once and end up making half a dozen trips instead!

Other accessories are being worked on now. I cut and sewed my purple scarf yesterday and added a beaded fringe with little golden metal discs at the ends so my costume will be jingly, too. :-D I like how it looks although I probably paid way too much for the metal discs; I could only find one shop that had them in bright gold and without coin designs and they were $45 for a gross there. ^_^;;

I think I’ll be getting new fabric and making another scarf to replace my yellow chiffon. I remembered this shawl I had in a drawer that I’d bought several years ago to wear with a gold brocade dress. It’s a shimmery light gold and I liked how it looked with the other scarves when I tried on the costume. If it weren’t so bulky (two layers of fabric which makes for a huge knot if you try to tie it), I’d just use the shawl itself. Fortunately, I remember a shop selling the same type of fabric in a lot of different colors so I don’t think I’ll have a problem matching the fabric.

The wig and armwarmers also still need a little work but I should definitely have a presentable version of this costume for next weekend.
