Aren't neverending stacks of mail fun?
Jul. 6th, 2006 09:57 pmThe 4th of July was quiet here. I just went to check out the new Rag Shop in the area. (It really just moved into a new larger space in the shopping center where it was.) The fabric and trim selection doesn’t seem to have gotten any bigger. But I pretty much never buy that kind of thing there anyway since I think I can get better quality and prices in the fashion district. They added a custom framing department though and new items in the needlework and beading sections. I bought some cloisonné beads similar to ones I had used in my Terra jewelry for much less than what I paid buying by the bead in Manhattan. The colors/shapes were really limited though so I’ll still have to get other styles in the city. They started carrying some Swarovski crystals too but it’s much cheaper to get them in bulk in the city so not planning to buy any there.
Yesterday, I woke up to the sounds of a downpour which my mother told me almost flooded our basement. The pump didn’t work again so she had to bail water although it died down by the time I went downstairs.
And the last two days, I’ve been continuing a task that I started over the weekend: going through our mail basket, shredding old bills from last year, and organizing whatever’s left. Probably not quite as simple as it sounds since all our utility bills seem to be split into first floor and second floor ones. And after a year and a half, all those extra sets of bills add up. I’ve already filled and emptied out the paper shredder 6 times since Saturday morning! (How is it that just 1 ½ - 2 cubic feet of mail will end up filling two garbage bags with more still to be sorted and thrown out?! O_o;) Sometimes, it feels like keeping up with and following up on our mail could be a part-time job by itself!
Still sewing on my sequined flowers. I’m on the last one before I finish with the fabric for the front of the dress. ^_^ Should be able to finish that up tomorrow and will post a picture of what I have then.
