Anyone want to play a guessing game? As [livejournal.com profile] ngmaster noticed over the weekend, I was copying him and doing a theme for my LJ entry titles this month. XD Since the Tony Awards were earlier this month, I decided to use musical theatre lyrics for my titles. Some of the quotes are kind of obvious and some are pretty obscure. If you’d like to try, look over the list of titles for June and name the song and musical for as many of the quotes as you can. I’ll post a full list of answers on the last day of the month.

And finally, the rest of my AnimeNext report…

On Saturday, I ended up waking around 4AM and couldn’t fall asleep again. Plus, our room was right across from the elevators (which had seemed so convenient at first) and they started dinging around 6:30 so I just gave up on sleeping. x_x

I had masquerade rehearsal at 11 but things were running behind. It was about noon by the time I finished so I hurried back to my room to drop off my fan and then went to the Fruits Basket photoshoot. It was a little disappointing the turnout was so small but we did get some amusing pictures. *remembers the Yuki fanclub girls attacking Tohru XD;* Then, had lunch and got some pictures of [Bad username or site: @ livejournal.com]’s huge Kingdom Hearts group *was amazed how many characters they gathered* before going back to the room to change into nyosen uniform.

Went to craftsmanship judging and was pleasantly surprised to find the judges this year included Sarcasm-hime and Kaijugal from Canada. It was nice to have a chance to see some of their costumes in person after admiring their work online. ^_^

The rest of the afternoon was spent wandering, watching the Anime Squares game show, and having a break in the hotel room before masquerade lineup. The masquerade started very late (over an hour and a half) but went quickly once it got started. Like last year, it seemed somewhat short, only 32 entries. o_o I wonder if cosplayers are just getting together in larger groups for skits these days (there were at least several with 6 or more people) and if that is bringing the number of entries down as a result. (Weren’t there closer to 50 entries in 2003 and 2004? I seem to remember it that way.)

I managed to get through my walk-on okay although I wished I had thought of a way to cut down my music without making it awkward. ^_^;; I had to walk very slowly and pause a long time near the end to kind of match the lyrics and not be offstage before the music ended. Strange thing that I noticed while onstage was that a few rows of people in the back of the audience were slowly waving their hands together over their heads. *laugh* That was certainly an unexpected reaction for Rodgers and Hammerstein music! (I used a clip of one of the faux Chinese opera songs from the revival recording of “Flower Drum Song.” Useless trivia: The female singer on the recording was Lea Salonga, who was also Mulan’s singing voice in the Disney movie.)

Hall cosplay winners were announced and I found that I got bumped up to Craftsman level (I entered as a Journeyman) and won Best of Friday for that division with my Ayame costume. ^_^ That was better than expected since I was impressed with the other costumes I saw while waiting in the judging room and felt there were a good number of nicely constructed costumes being entered. Then, masquerade awards were announced and I won Best Journeyman Craftsmanship which has already been mentioned in passing.

Sunday was cosplay chess, which I already wrote about several entries back. There wasn’t much I wanted to do afterwards so I just wandered through the dealer’s room for a while. I didn’t buy much but that’s normal since some of my favorite series either have no merchandise or merchandise that I’m not interested in. Other than the plushie I posted a picture of last time, I got volume 2 of Paradise Kiss (have been meaning to read more of it for quite a while) plus volumes 3 and 4 of Gankutsuou. Also took my father (who had come to drive us home) out to lunch for Father’s Day and then we just sat around for a while, waiting for my brother and his friends.

Something that surprised me over the weekend is that people I hadn’t met before seem to be starting to recognize me as Lady of the Thread. I don’t make it to many cons and only post sporadically on cosplay.com so it was a bit unexpected. Also took more pictures and talked to more people than I have at past cons. I’m still kind of nervous talking to new people in person but trying to get over it a bit. ^_^;;

And that's it. Must go sew more sequins now...
