Made it to Sakura Matsuri...

I managed to get my new D costume done! It took quite a few evenings of handsewing trim since there’s over 8 yards of it on the coat. (and which is why I haven’t posted here for a while. ^_^;) It’ll probably be a few days until I get pictures from my brother so meanwhile, here’s a peek inside the coat and a detail pic of the tassel decoration I did on the back to make it less plain. I based it off the back of the coat from the Berlin sidestory, since that one was somewhat similar and the outfit I made didn’t have a back reference. Made the cording and tassels myself. The buttons are around waist level and the lines of trim in the middle are where the coattails split in the back.

Here’s a tiny section of the inside at the front opening. I bound the edges of the facing and then hand stitched it to the lining. And the whole coat is lined in taffeta. (I like making the insides of my costumes neat even if not many are ever likely to see them. ^_^;;) I didn’t think functional buttons would work that well with the design so I used hook and eye tape instead and had the buttons be ornamental only.
Wore the new D for the cherry blossom festival yesterday although I didn’t get to stay as long as I would have liked. ._.; I overslept and had to go home around 3 to change for a wedding reception. (A cousin’s cousin got married; never met him before but the whole family got invited.) Weather was very cloudy and on the chilly side, too, so I spent much of the time hiding under my trenchcoat when not taking pictures. (I’m kind of annoyed that it’s turning out to be sunny today. I figured I had to go yesterday since rain and thunder were forecasted for today!)
Still, it was nice to see some friends again and hang out for a while. ^_^ *waves to

As for what’s next in cosplay plans…
I’m holding off on the YGO costume for a while until
novaraven is more definite on whether she can make it to AnimeNext. If she can’t make it, Cecilia will be postponed until a con we can both attend since I’m making it primarily to go with her Pegasus and not interested in wearing it on my own.
Meanwhile, I think I’ll remake the obi for my nyosen uniform since I bought the fabric already. Haven’t worn any of my Twelve Kingdoms stuff for nearly a year and I’d like to wear this costume again but the sash falls down now since I’ve lost weight. I already ripped the obi open once to take it in so it’s kind of beat up and I’d rather start over.
Finally, I was looking at the Met website recently and noticed their next fashion-related exhibit is opening this week: Superheroes: Fashion and Fantasy. Anyone want to go see this in a group sometime? I figure some of you might be interested and I think it would be more fun to go with friends. :-D
