My optometrist keeps trying to push freshlooks on me too. I wanted blue eyes for Sir integral but freshlooks blue just made my eyes look totally black. I had to order some really icy blue theatrical contacts to cover my dark eyes. They do not look natrual at all but I was left with no choice at all since my optomitrist said he couldn't order in any samples from other brands and I was not going to buy them without trying them on first. The theatrical ones I knew would work. They really stand out obviously so I can only ever wear them for anime, but they were my only sure choice.
You're right, if you haven't ever worn contacts before you shouldn't order them off line. But as long as you already have a perscription for them and have worn them in the past it is perfectly safe. You do not have to pay a new fitting fee if you already wear contacts, unless you were still a teenager and your eyes have grown since you were last fitted. The base curve is what they measure when they fit your lenses, it's the shape/curve of your eyeball, and it shouldn't change over time.
contacts can be really tricky. I hope you have some luck finding wha you need! ^^
